Vignette year 2024 Austria

The vignette year 2024 in Austria comes with a few innovations

The implementation of the EU infrastructure costs directive will result in some changes and innovations to vignettes and route tolls for Austria’s motorways and expressways, for the vignette year 2024. An overview of all the innovations in vignettes and tolls is helpful.

What’s new with the vignette in the vignette year 2024?

As already announced, Austria will introduce a long-awaited form of digital vignette in 2024 with the digital 1-day vignette. The cost for the 1-day vignette is €8.60. There will also be price adjustments for all other vignettes, with the exception of the annual vignette, which will continue to cost €96.40.

In addition to the expansion of the product range, there is a crucial innovation regarding the purchase of the 1-day vignette and 10-day vignette. From the new year onwards, the 18-day consumer protection period will no longer apply. This means that both the 1-day vignette and the 10-day vignette will be valid immediately in the future.

Attention: Innovations in mobile homes and small trucks

From December 1st, 2023, there will be a switch from the highest permissible gross vehicle weight (hzG) to the technically permissible gross vehicle weight (tzGm). Whether a vehicle is subject to the vignette requirement or route toll or the GO toll obligation is no longer determined by the maximum permissible total weight (hzG) but rather by the technically permissible total mass (tzGm). Vehicles with up to 3.5 tonnes of tzGm are subject to the vignette requirement or route toll and vehicles with more than 3.5 tonnes of tzGm are subject to the GO toll requirement.

What’s new with route tolls in 2024?

The implementation of the EU infrastructure costs directive also affects route tolls. The previous annual ticket will be replaced by the so-called multi-trip ticket. Apart from the name change, there is nothing new here. The performance content of the card remains the same. The multi-trip ticket is immediately valid when purchased online by consumers.
