Digital vignettes Switzerland

Digital vignette and toll in Switzerland

Just like in Austria, there are still two types of vignettes in Switzerland. The classic variant of the adhesive vignette and the digital vignette. The advantages of the digital vignette are obvious. The vignette is mandatory for the use of Swiss motorways. Every car and trailer with a GVW of up to 3.5 tonnes requires an annual vignette. Different regulations apply to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. They must pay a Swiss customs tax upon entry.

The vehicle types of the digital vignette for Switzerland

Motorcycle

In Switzerland, all motor vehicles with a permissible gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 3.5 tonnes are generally required to have a vignette. There are exceptions for selected vehicles.

Motor vehicle

There is also no distinction made in Switzerland when it comes to two-lane motor vehicles. Every motor vehicle with a permissible gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 3.5 tonnes is subject to a vignette. However, there are certain exceptions.

Motorhomes

Motorhomes and vans with a permissible total weight of over 3.5 tonnes do not require a vignette, but must pay the so-called flat rate heavy vehicle tax (PSVA).
