Digital vignette and toll in the Czech Republic

A digital vignette is required in the Czech Republic to use motorways and expressways with a car with a GVW of up to 3.5 tonnes. The digital vignette is available online and on site. The vehicle types of the digital vignette for the Czech Republic

Motorcycle

In the Czech Republic, all motor vehicles with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 tons generally require a digital vignette. However, motorcycles and trikes are excluded from this.

Motor vehicle

Motor vehicles with four wheels and a maximum permissible gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 3.5 tons are subject to tolls in the Czech Republic. These types of motor vehicles require a digital vignette.

Motorhomes

Motorhomes and vans with a maximum permissible gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 3.5 tonnes also require a vignette. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes pay route-dependent tolls using a transmitter and do not require a vignette.

Note

Trailers and caravans do not require a separate vignette in the Czech Republic. The only decisive factor is that the weight of the combination does not exceed the permitted gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 3.5 tonnes.

Which types of vignettes are valid?

Do motorhomes in the Czech Republic need a vignette?

All motor vehicles, including mobile homes with a maximum permissible gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 3.5 tonnes, require a vignette. Only vehicles over 3.5 tonnes pay a route-dependent toll using a transmitter and do not require a vignette.

Can there be penalties and fines for violations of vignette and toll requirements?

The Czech police and the customs administration are constantly carrying out checks. The checks are carried out directly on the motorways with a vignette requirement through the physical presence of the security organs. The vehicle license plates are checked for valid digital vignettes using a camera system.

Driving without a valid digital vignette on motorway routes that require a vignette can result in a penalty or a fine of CZK 20,000. The only exception is the exemption from the vignette requirement.

Potential abuses of the exemption regulations are also monitored. If a natural or legal person applies for an exemption even though they are not entitled to do so, with the deliberate intention of exploiting the system, this may be punished with a fine of up to CZK 100,000. If a toll motorway route is driven by a vehicle that benefits from the exemption, but the driver does not make an appropriate declaration as required by law, this may result in a fine of up to CZK 5,000. The same penalty is also provided for persons who do not report to the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure within ten working days that the circumstances for exemption no longer apply.
